Summer Foot Health Tips The Podiatrist's Guide to Happy Feet
To Request an appointment with Dr. Schneider: referdrschneider.com
Are you ready to tackle common foot issues this summer? From athlete's foot to sunburn, the warmer months can present unique challenges for your feet. Athlete's foot thrives in warm, damp environments, making your summer footwear a potential breeding ground. Itching, burning, and peeling skin are common symptoms, but with proper care, you can prevent this fungal infection.
Blisters are another annoyance during summer, often caused by friction from ill-fitting shoes. They can become painful and, if not treated correctly, lead to infections. Additionally, don't forget about sunburn on your feet-just like the rest of your body, your feet are susceptible to sun damage without proper sunscreen protection.
To keep your feet happy and healthy this summer, start with good hygiene practices. Wash your feet daily with soap and water, especially focusing on the areas between your toes where fungus can thrive. Ensure your feet are thoroughly dried afterwards to prevent moisture buildup, a key factor in fungal infections.
Choosing the right footwear is crucial. Opt for breathable shoes and socks made from natural materials to allow proper air circulation and minimize moisture retention. Avoid walking barefoot in public places like pools or locker rooms to reduce the risk of fungal infections. Instead, use shower shoes or flip flops for protection.
Regular moisturizing is essential for preventing dry, cracked heels. Apply moisturizer daily, particularly after washing your feet, to keep your skin hydrated and resilient. This simple step helps prevent painful cracks and discomfort, ensuring your feet stay healthy throughout the summer.
Hydration isn't just important for your body-it's crucial for foot health too. Drink plenty of water to maintain skin elasticity and proper circulation, reducing the risk of dryness and related foot problems. Properly hydrated feet are less prone to issues like cramps and strains, common in hot weather.
When choosing summer footwear, prioritize breathability and support. Opt for shoes made from materials like leather or canvas with mesh panels for airflow. Avoid tight-fitting shoes that can cause blisters and discomfort. Flip flops are great for casual wear but ensure they provide adequate arch support to prevent foot strain.
Don't forget sun protection! Apply sunscreen to your feet, including the tops and between your toes, to prevent painful burns and reduce the risk of skin cancer. Sunburn on your feet can lead to blistering and long-term skin damage, so take the time to protect them during outdoor activities.
By following these summer foot health tips, you can prevent common issues and enjoy happier, healthier feet all season long. Take care of your feet-they're your foundation for staying active and comfortable in the summer heat!

I do not agree with you that the damage starts in the legs because of the distance, since nerve impulses travel at the speed of light, the distance of a few meters is negligible. It makes more sense that the reason is less oxygen reaching the distant peripheral organs

All the photos show the joint, foot to big toe. My pain is a bent toe, at the top knuckle of the big toe. Not on the foot knuckle, the top knuckle of the big toe. it's red, feels broken and been bent for... dunno 20 years LOL. I probably broke it as a teen? Not sure. It's inwards at the TOP knuckle. Gout or bunion? And why do all photos on the entire web only show the lower knuckle? It makes me feel like my pain is not among any of these options.

I tried on multiple pairs/slip in models. Some fit better than others. Even the same model had variances. I bought just one pair to try since I've had trouble with other Sketcher pairs becoming loose/stretched-out after a short period of time. These slip-ins are getting loose on me too. The right insole seems bunched at the toe area....so not glued down well enough? I'm not impressed.

I stand corrected. Someone with laces confused. Someone tells them "call Dr slipknots office to make an appointment about what shoes to get. The person looks down at their feet. A pair of flip flops with duct tape laces. Looks up (camera pans in to face... I better call Dr slipknots) cut to her limping into office. Cut to her learning the rabbit tie trick. Then her skipping out of your office as camera pans to your sign.

I feel like like there's a pebble under my arch and the shoe leans to the side. It feels like my foot is slightly off the sole when I walk, like they didnt put it on correctly. I have to compensate by leaning my foot the other way when I walk. I thought I had a defecttive shoe until I got another pair but still have the same problem. Strangly Its only happens when i wear jogging shoes, but not trail runners, boots or sandles. I have no caluses.

I've just subscribed to your channel after watching so many others that weren't very informative or useful compared to yours so thank you for this. I don't know if you answer questions from your viewers, but if you do, I'd like to know if having generalised tonic clonic serial seizures could cause nerve damage? I'm aware that they must be quite powerful muscle contractions as I've always came round from them with missing teeth, a bitten tongue or lip, and teeth marks under my bottom lip. The last seizure I had was very scary because I came around on the floor atfter having a seizure 'aura' and preparing myself by lying down on my sofa without anything in my hands or mouth, so the seizure itself had caused my body to work it's way from the sofa to the floor. This seizure was different from others in the past, in that I came around completely paralysed from the waist downwards. I tried to move my legs but just couldn't. It was as if my brain was giving the command to move my legs but the command was not getting through. I don't know how long I lay on the floor as the post ictal phase causes havoc with my memory and cognition. I just know I was on the floor for what seemed like a long time, confused and unable to use my legs before the feeling in them gradually came back and I was able to crawl back onto the sofa, still very unstable on my feet, knowing if I stood up I would fall. I'd never had this experience with any of my past seizures and it made me acutely aware of how they can affect my body and brain and that there is a relationship between them that can cause temporary paralysis. Is it possible that my seizures have (over time) caused nerve damage in my feet?

I recently did the dumbest thing I think I’ve ever done in my life. I got acrylic put on my two big toes for my graduation in May. I let the nail grow out because it’s summertime so I’m mostly wearing sandals. We are now in June, and for whatever reason I forgot to cut my acrylic toenails off. Two days ago I was invited to go play pickle ball, and I went and stubbed my toenail in my shoe so many times I had to stop playing. It hurt so badly. Currently my toenail is blue and my toe around the perimeter of my toenail is red and swollen. The pain is extremely bad and occasionally I feel a burning sensation. The pain is solely on my right big toe. I went to the doctor and she prescribed me antibiotics, but for some reason, I’m in denial that I have an infection.I’ve been taking antibiotics for two days and I’m not seeing any changes. I’m supposed to be done taking these after five days. If anything, my toe is getting worse. What should I do? Please help! For context on why I got the acrylic on my big toe: This was my first time getting acrylic on my toes ever and my reasoning is because I played college tennis and I stubbed my natural nail a few months ago and broke a piece of it off while playing so I decided to get the acrylic to close that gap.
